Thousands of bargains await at Junior League of Savannah Thrift Sale

SAVANNAH, Ga. [September 25, 2008] -- Everyone loves a good sale, and one of the low country’s best is just one week away. The Junior League of Savannah announced that the sixty- first annual Junior League Thrift Sale will be held October 2nd through 4th at the Savannah Civic Center. Admission is $5 on Friday and $3 on Saturday. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at the Savannah Civic Center’s box office, located at 301 W. Oglethorpe Ave., by calling 912-651-6556 or online at www.jrleaguesav.org.

“The Thrift Sale is an annual event that offers gently used merchandise
at very affordable prices,” said Chairperson Kris Edenfield.

“The League holds this sale every year to assist members of the community in purchasing quality items that they otherwise
might not be able to afford. In addition, the proceeds from
the sale help fund the numerous community projects the Junior
League supports throughout year.”

Thrift Sale merchandise is donated by League members and supporters, and varies each year. Shoppers can find appliances, electronics, children’s clothing and toys, home and holiday decor, books, accessories, house wares, linens, furniture and more. Recently, two new sections have been added to the sale:

New Boutique, featuring new-in-the-box merchandise; and
Gift Shop, featuring high quality items such as crystal, china,
jewelry, and designer goods.

The Thrift Sale will be held October 3rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and October 4th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Savannah Civic Center. Admission is $5 on Friday and $3 on Saturday. Children under 2 are admitted free. No strollers or carts are permitted.

Items sold on Saturday are half-price. All sales are cash only.
Parking is free.

This year, the public is invited to the Thrift Sale Preview Cocktail Party and Auction, being held October 2nd from 5:30 to 10 p.m. The Preview Cocktail Party is a gala evening that features pre-sale shopping for items at twice the marked price and live and silent auctions for items such as art, jewelry, designer clothing and gift certificates to top spas, golf courses and restaurants. A limited number of tickets are available for the Preview Cocktail Party. Cost is $35 and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets for the Preview Cocktail Party and Auction are available online at www.jrleaguesav.org.

With this three day event, the League raises hundreds of thousands
of dollars, which are returned to the community through various League projects. This year begins a five-year commitment to a focus area of women’s and children’s advocacy. Community partners for this year include: Oatland Island Education Center, Habitat for Humanity, Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center and Union Mission. The League will also complete oneday projects with several organizations including Kids in the Kitchen, a program to educate children on proper nutritional choices. In addition, the Junior League serves the Golden Isles and South Carolina Low Country areas, and members there will work on various education-related projects.
