NOVEMBER,
2008 SOCIAL
After
A chilly Spooktacular Halloween party in Juliette Gordon
Lowe Park, Jim and Jamey welcomed us all to their warm and
welcoming home at the corner of West Bolton and Barnard.
It was a wonderful evening for a Social and over 120 guests
flowed from the street, across the front porch, through
their home and out to the back yard area. Jim and Jamey
had decorated the house, as they always do, and the feeling
of fall and Halloween was everywhere. Some lined the stairs
all evening and watched all the comings and goings. Roger
Moss was in attendance and sang for a very special couple’s
anniversary. The whole evening was joyful and the feeling
that we are truly one community was very strong. Thank you
Jim and Jamey.
As
this weekend was a fundraising weekend for FCN, the Social,
which is always free and open to all, hosted a Silent Auction
of about 20 different items ranging from original works
of art to gift certificates and fabulous services. FCN had
decided to split the funds raised over the weekend with
My Brothaz Home (http://www.mybrothazhome.org). The Silent
Auction brought in a little over $1000.
As
usual the food was plentiful and very diverse and the drink
was flowing, including leftover beer from the Spooktacular
the night before. Again, the overwhelming support of the
FCN First Saturday Social demonstrates that it is the cornerstone
of FCN’s outreach to the Savannah LGBT communities, but
FCN does look to venture more into providing educational
and workshop offerings in the future to balance our strong
social presence already. Please keep supporting the Socials,
the Lesbian Potlucks and consider hosting one of these events
if you have never done so. The FCN Board will help you and
work closely with any new host to make the experience an
easy and gracious event, regardless of the size of your
home. Please contact Lynn Rachels, Board Member, or any
other Board member if you are interested in hosting either
one of the Socials or one of the Pot Lucks.
